New Memberships

The Richmond Area Chapter (RAC-MOAA) is a Virginia non-profit, non-stock corporation and an affiliate of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA). Membership is open to active duty, National Guard, Reserve, retired, and former commissioned officers and warrant officers of the following uniformed services: Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, Coast Guard, Public Health Service, and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Memberships also are available for surviving spouses of deceased officers.

The chapter area includes portions of the Virginia counties of: Amelia, Caroline, Charles City, Chesterfield, Henrico, Goochland, Hanover, King and Queen, King William, Louisa, New Kent, Powhatan and Prince George, and the City of Richmond.

Our Chapter has over 200 members and desires to grow. If you are in doubt about being within our membership area, send us an e-mail at membership@racmoaa.org or call our Membership Chairman, CAPT Mary Lou Wassel, at 804-551-1878 and leave a message. Chapter dues for 2024 are $20 per year for Regular (hard copy newsletter) officer members, $10 per year for "Paperless" (emailed newsletter) members and $10 per year for Surviving Spouse members. Individuals can also elect to pay for 3 years at the rates of $50 for 3 years for Regular members, $25 for 3 years for "Paperless" members, and $25 for 3 years for Surviving Spuse members.

For chapter membership, you must be an active member of the MOAA, or be willing to join national MOAA, to belong to our local Chapter. We can assist you with both local and national membership applications. .

Chapter Meetings and Activities

Generally the chapter hosts dinner or brunch meetings at the Meadowbrook Country Club located at 3700 Cogbill Road, in January, March, May, September, and November each year. Additionally, the chapter often hosts an annual Holiday Gala in early December. Our Programs Committee plans and hosts occasional social outings in the greater Richmond area. All outings are well-planned to ensure quality service and amenities.

The Chapter's Board of Directors meets every monthly virtually or in person to conduct ongoing business thoughout the year. Chapter members are welcome to attend these meetings. For details on the board meetings contact the Chapter Secretary.
